RTI activist demands withdrawal of Prof. Shivaraj’s reinstatement

July 5, 2017

Mysuru: RTI activist R.N. Satyanarayana has demanded the State Government to withdraw the reinstatement of B. Shivaraj to Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences (BIMS), University of Mysore.

Addressing press persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here this morning, Satyanarayana blamed the University for asking Prof. Shivaraj to go on compulsory retirement rather than dismissing him from service after the allegations against him were proven by investigations taken up by a retired Judge and Lokayukta.

Demanding the State Government to make the counter report public, if any, given by any other investigative agency, Satyanarayana added that it was unfortunate that State Government was supporting such tainted Professors in the University.

He also urged the Government to withdraw the reinstatement of Prof. Shivaraj else threatened to move Court over the matter.

It may be recalled that Prof. Shivaraj had been accused by the University of violating the University statute by ‘attacking’ the then Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa besides questioning the earlier inquiry report in which he was held responsible for entering into MoU with University of Sistan and Baluchestan, Zahedan, Iran without following the statutes governing the recognition of foreign Universities approved by the Chancellor.

Prof. Shivaraj had also been charged for allegedly collecting Rs. 150 from each MBA student studying in affiliated colleges of the University and the Outreach Centres recognised by the University to distribute course-wares developed by industrial experts.

Following the allegations, the University of Mysore Syndicate had on Nov. 21, 2016 decided to send Prof. Shivaraj on Compulsory Retirement. Later, on June 12, 2017, the State Government passed an order nullifying the Syndicate’s decision and reinstated Prof. Shivaraj.
