Run for Unity in city tomorrow

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police have organised a series of events like Run for Unity, Voluntary Blood Donation and March-Past on Oct. 31 in city as part of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of India’s First Home Minister and former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

National Unity Day is being observed across the country to foster and reinforce dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation. The ‘Run for Unity’ programme is organised by both Union and State Governments at all district headquarters, towns and villages to pay tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India.’

 The Run for Unity marathon is organised by City Police in association with Alert Citizens Team (ACT). Students of various schools and colleges, members of Non-Government Organisations and citizens will take part in the marathon which will begin from St. Philomena’s Church on Ashoka Road at 7 am tomorrow. The Run will pass through Azam Masjid, Nehru Circle and culminate at Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple near Mysore Palace.  

Voluntary Blood Donation will be held at 10 am at Vidya Vikas Law College premises.  Later, the March-Past will begin from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at 4.30 pm after oath-taking.  The March-Past will proceed through Big Clock Tower Circle, Ashoka Road, Nehru Circle and culminate at St. Phenomena’s Church.

All wings of Police troops, Police Band and Mounted Police will participate. City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) N. Vishnuvardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Dr. Vikram V. Amathe, City Armed Reserve DCP Basavaraj V. Kittur and members of Alert Citizens Team (ACT) will be participating.
