Sedative in coffee: Stranger robs senior citizen of finger ring at Bus Stand

Mysore/Mysuru: A stranger, who made an elder citizen drink coffee laced with sedatives, has robbed him of his gold finger ring. The incident took place at the hotel in Sub-Urban Bus Stand on Sept. 12 and the theft came to light when the elderly man regained conscious at a private hospital on Sept. 13.

The senior citizen, who lost his gold finger ring is 82-year-old Pallakki Veeranna, a resident of Kuvempunagar in city.

Veeranna, who had been to Bengaluru, arrived at Sub-Urban Bus Stand in city on Sept. 12 at about 11.15 am. An unidentified man, who was travelling along with Veeranna, befriended him during the travel and when they alighted at Sub-Urban Bus Stand, the unidentified man took him to the hotel at the Bus Stand, bought coffee and gave it to Veeranna. As soon as Veeranna drank the coffee, he felt drowsy and fell unconscious during which the unidentified man removed the 6 gram gold finger ring from Veeranna’s finger and fled from the spot.

At about 12 noon, one Ravikumar, called Veeranna’s son P.V. Basavaraju from Veeranna’s mobile phone and told him that Veeranna was found lying unconscious at the hotel in Sub-Urban Bus Stand besides telling Basavaraju that Veeranna was being taken to K.R. Hospital. Basavaraju and his wife, who rushed to K.R. Hospital, found Veeranna being treated in an ICU there, got him discharged and admitted him to a private hospital, where Veeranna regained conscious the next day during which theft came to light.

A case has been registered at Lashkar Police Station.
