Ganja was seized from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar

Mysore/Mysuru: To mark the International Day of Awareness against Drug Abuse on June 26, the City Police destroyed drugs that were seized in Mysuru at various places under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

 More than 23.21 kg of ganja and 5.67 mg of MDMA tablets seized by different Police Stations were taken to an incinerator plant — M/S GIPS Bio-Tech, in Survey Number 82 — at Gujjegowdanapura village in Jayapura Hobli on the outskirts of Mysuru  were burnt. The total value of the drugs is estimated at Rs. 5.47 lakh.

 A press release from the City Police Commissioner’s Office stated that the ganja was recovered in 23 different cases and the MDMA (Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) tablets were seized in one case.

 The destruction of the seized narcotic drugs was carried out by the Drug Disposal Committee of Mysuru City Police after obtaining permission from the jurisdictional Courts. Representatives from the local Gram Panchayat (GP) were also present to ensure that the destruction did not cause any environmental pollution.

 Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna, who is also the Chairperson of the Mysuru City Drugs Disposal Committee, besides members of the Committee including Assistant Commissioner of Police (City Crime Branch) Ashwathnarayan and (City Crime Records Bureau) Inspector Mohammed Irshad were also present.

 Over 128 kg of ganja seized during its cultivation, transportation, storing or selling in Chamarajanagar district was also destroyed in the incinerator plant at Gujjegowdanapura in Jayapura Hobli on June 24. A statement from the Chamarajanagar District Administration said the destroyed ganja pertained to a total of 33 cases and was valued at around Rs. 33.51 lakh.
