Mysuru: Innovative Mysuru and Department of Kannada and Culture had organised a seminar on ‘New experiments in Yakshagana’ at MMK and SDM Women’s College in Krishnamurthypuram here on Aug. 13.
Speaking on the occasion, Yakshagana Scholar Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj said that the credit of giving a new look and form to Yakshagana should go to Shivananda Hegde, who experimented new variants of the art successfully.
He recalled that Hegde had presented the episode of Bheemasena carrying his (Bheemasena) four brothers and their mother Kunthi on the shoulders through a Yakshagana performance.
Scholar Dr. S.D. Hegde said that folklore is the root for science, art, culture and literature. Yakshagana Exponent G.S. Bhatta of Innovative Mysuru, College Principal Sainath Malligemadu, PU College Principal M.V. Asha, Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota President M. Chandrashekar and others were present.
