Sericulture Scientist Dr. Narasimhanna no more

Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. M.N. Narasimhanna (93), Sericulture Scientist and former Director of Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute in Mysuru, passed away in the wee hours of today at a private hospital in city.

A resident of Contour Road in Gokulam, near Aditya Hospital, he leaves behind two sons, grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

He married P. Jayalakshmi in 1960 and the couple had three sons of which one son had passed away in an accident.

Last rites were held at the foot of Chamundi Hill this afternoon, according to family sources.

As a Scientist, Dr. Narasimhanna invented the Bivoltine breed which benefited the Central Government. He was the recipient of many awards including the International Louis Pasture Award. He had also authored many books including ‘Hand Book of Practical Sericulture.’

Born on Feb. 22, 1931 to M. Narayanappa and Sakamma couple in Mysuru, Dr. Narasimhanna completed his High School studies at D. Banumaiah’s High School and B.Sc degree at St. Philomena’s College.

He did his M.Sc in Zoology at the Central College in Bengaluru and obtained his Ph.D in Sericulture from Mysore University.

Dr. Narasimhanna served as the Joint Director of the Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute in Mysuru between 1975 and 76, Director of Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute in Mysuru between 1976 and 78 and Director of Central Tasar Research & Training Institute at Ranchi between 1978 and 80.
