Shivaratri: Athmalingeshwara Rathotsava: Boy comes under chariot wheels, dies

Bharathinagar: A 13-year-old boy was killed while a man suffered a fracture on his leg, when they came under the wheels of the chariot during Athmalingeshwara Swamy Rathotsava held at Hanumanthanagar near here on Sunday evening.

The deceased boy is Shivakumar, son of Kullegowda of Karadakere village and the man, who suffered a fracture on his leg, is 50-year-old Lingegowda of the same village. Lingegowda is undergoing treatment at a hospital in K.M. Doddi.

Details: On Sunday at about 4 pm, Athmalingeshwara Swamy Rathotsava was being held as part of Shivaratri festival and the chariot carrying the idol of the deity, went around the temple in the presence of thousands of devotees and came back to the starting point. Later, the chariot was being pulled back to its shed by the temple staff and the devotees, when Shivakumar and Lingegowda were standing in front of the chariot fell under the wheels of the chariot and were seriously injured. Both the injured were rushed to a hospital in K.M. Doddi, where Shivakumar succumbed to injuries.

A case has been registered at K.M. Doddi Police Station.
