‘Shravana Anka’ of Champaka Rashtreeya Kalaa Utsava

Mysore/Mysuru: Champaka Educational and Cultural Trust had organised the ‘Shravana Anka’ of Champaka Rashtreeya Kalaa Utsava-2023 on Sept. 3 at Champaka Sabhangana of Champaka Academy.

Vidu. Nagalakshmi Nagarajan, Founder of Champaka Academy, presented a thematic Bharatanatyam based on the poem ‘Darpadalanam’ by the great Kashmiri poet Kshemendra. An extract from the poem showcased the unimportance of having pride in family lineage but need to work on acquiring good values that create a mark for the family lineage.

The performances also included Natya Saraswathi Guru Shubha Dhananjaya from Bengaluru and her students performing the Darbari piece in Kathak. Her students of Natyantaranga Karana institution also performed Bharatanatyam to the praise of Devi Chamundeshwari.

Students of Sri Uma Maheshwara Nritya Kalakshetra trained under Mysuru’s renowned Guru Vidushi Srilakshmi Kumar performed to various compositions to the delight of the audience.

Vidu. Sharika performed for an ashtapadi ringing on a higher level in abhinaya for it. Samskrita Vidwan Prof. H.V. Nagaraja Rao, whose translation of ‘Darpadalanam’ was used, was present throughout the programme blessing and appreciating the initiative which had a social message.

Honorary Secretary of Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru, KSN Prasad was the chief guest and spoke about the mandatory time to be given for hobby, giving his own example and said about the importance of such an activity in shaping academics in children and youth.

All performers were awarded the certificate of the Champaka Rashtreeya Kalaa Utsava-2023.

Music composition for the feature was done by Vidu. Chethana Nagaraj from Bengaluru and was rendered flawlessly by Vidu. Shruti Prasad accompanied by Vid. Vikram Bhardwaj on mridanga and Pranav on flute.
