For a significant period, the residents in and around Alanahalli, adjacent to Mysuru-T. Narasipur Road, have been enduring the nuisance of shrill horns, which is causing considerable trouble for them throughout the day, except for a few quiet hours during midnight.

These highly irritating shrill horns were banned almost a decade ago, yet they persist, making life miserable for the people in the area, especially those living on either side of T. Narasipur Road, students of Sri Nirvanaswamy Samyukta (SNS) Vidyasamsthe and inmates of Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Seva Trust Hostel.

The constant flow of heavy traffic on this Highway includes numerous private buses, goods carriers and autorickshaws, all equipped with these vibrating and blaring shrill horns. The irresponsible speeding drivers show no regard for the residents and honk recklessly with high-decibel noises, using various vibrating and echoing sounds, causing mental and psychological distress for the people living in this locality.

The continuous noise, surpassing 84 decibels, poses a serious risk to the ears of children and the elderly. This stretch of road is home to many schools, hostels, hospitals and paying guests, who are perennially suffering due to this ugly menace of shrill horns, turning their lives into a nightmare day and night.

Early mornings and late nights are even more painful as the incessant honking becomes more pronounced in the silence of these inactive hours. Some drivers have installed multiple trumpeting horns to continuously honk in an echoing manner, producing different sounds for several seconds at a stretch.

We earnestly request the concerned authorities, such as the Police, Road Transport Department, noise pollution authorities, etc., to take immediate action as follows. Implementing these actions will undoubtedly improve the lives of people in and around Alanahalli, bringing some relief to their daily struggles and concerns.

Immediately ban the usage of these shrill horns and penalise all those who use these banned and irritating honking horns with heavy fines.

Install barricades between Alanahalli Lake, where the SNS school children cross the Highway, and the park near the Alanahalli Bus Stand, to facilitate safe road crossing for school children and the public.

Install ‘No Horn’ signboards near the SNS Vidyasamsthe and Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Seve Trust Hostel to discourage unnecessary honking.

Paint zebra crossings at the main entrance of the school to aid school children and their parents in safely crossing the road to reach the school.
