Mysore/Mysuru: Students and youth must shun drugs and embrace books, advised Maharaja College Principal Prof. Dr. C.A. Sreedhara after inaugurating an awareness programme organised to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, organised by University of Mysore (UoM) Researchers Association, near the Clock Tower in Manasagangothri campus here recently.

“If we become slaves to drugs, our health will be destroyed completely. Youths should not get attracted to momentary pleasure and destroy their future. Instead of becoming slaves to drugs, become slaves of books. Shun drugs, embrace books and follow Dr. Ambedkar’s advise by giving priority to pursuit of knowledge,” said Dr. Sreedhara.

Sub-Inspector of Jayalakshmipuram Police Station Smitha, who also spoke, urged students not to get addicted to drugs as they will deteriorate both physical and mental health.

Students of Biotechnology Department, led by Yashaswini and team, created awareness about the evils of drugs usage by holding placards and by performing dance.

UoM Researchers Association former President Maridevaiah also spoke at the function.
