Signal jumping menace

Sir,

This is in response to the letter titled “Unruly Signal Jumping” (SOM dated Feb.9) by Mohit Muthappa. Signal jumping is common at all signals in Mysuru. Needless to say, it can be very dangerous.

Unfortunately, the Police, if at all present at the signal, turn a blind eye to this menace. Instead, the Inspectors and Constables set up check points at blind corners and check vehicles for helmetless riding, etc. Though wearing of helmet and seatbelt is compulsory and offenders need to be pulled up, abiding law at traffic signals is far more important since it could even lead to fatal accidents.

I request the Police Commissioner and Traffic Police to become strict with violators at traffic signals and usage of mobile phone while driving. Installation of working cameras along with levying fines could also help in curbing this menace.
