Sikkil to sing at Ganabharathi

Mysore/Mysuru: Ganabharathi is organising a music concert by Sikkil Gurucharan at its premises on Adichunchanagiri Road in city on Feb. 14 at 6 pm. The programme is organised in memory of Srimathi Saraswathi Rao and Dr. R. Sundarachar. 

Gurucharan will be accompanied by Vidwan N. Karthik on violin, Vidwan Bharadwaj on mridanga and Vidwan G.S. Ramanujan on ghata.

Artistes’ Profiles: Sikkil Gurucharan is among the foremost young performing musicians of Karntatak music in India today.  He is the grandson of Vidushi Sikkil Kunjumani, elder of the internationally acclaimed flautists the ‘Sikkil Sisters’. Gurucharan has been under the tutelage of Vaigal S. Gnanaskandan and is currently being mentored by B. Krishnamurthy. He is an ‘A’ graded artiste of All India Radio. India Today featured him among ‘35 Game-changers Under the age of 35 in India,’ a list of young achievers from different walks of life. Gurucharan has performed extensively in India and abroad, spanning prestigious venues such as the Music Academy, Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha, Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, Riverside Theatres (Sydney), Korean Arts Management Centre (Seoul), to name a few. Gurucharan, along with pianist Anil Srinivasan and legendary guitarist John McLaughlin has given unique music programmes. He has several awards and prizes to his credit like Tchaikovsky Award, Isai Peroli, Nada Sri, Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar.

Vid. N. Karthik is the son and disciple of illustrious musician Vidwan Mysore M. Nagaraj. Karthik, in spite of being young, has rich experience of accompanying veteran senior artistes. He is known for his soulful playing.

Vidwan N.C. Bharadwaj is one of the most sought after young percussionists. He is the disciple of Mridanga Chakravarthy Vidwan Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman and has a rich experience of accompanying highly reputed vocalists and instrumentalists of top echelons of Karnatak music. 

Vidwan G.S. Ramanujan, a senior percussionist, is the disciple of Vidwan P.G. Laxminarayan. For more details, call Mob: 99000-82773.
