Sisters drown in agri pond

They fell into the pond while trying to pluck guavas

Gundlupet: Two sisters, who were trying to pluck guavas in their field, were drowned after they fell into an agricultural pond. The incident took place at Kebbepura village in the taluk on Tuesday.

The deceased sisters have been identified as Pooja (13), a 7th standard student at Kebbepura Government Higher Primary school and Punya (14), a 9th standard student at Hundipura Government High School and daughters of Rechanna of Kebbepura village.

Yesterday morning, Pooja and Punya went to the field to pluck guavas from the tree grown next to the agri pond. But while plucking the fruits, the sisters slipped and fell into the water-filled pond and were drowned.

The bodies of the two sisters were fished out with the help of villagers and no case has been registered in this regard.

Gundlupet MLA C.S. Niranjankumar and BEO S.C. Shivamurthy visited the house of the grieving family and consoled them.
