Social media content not credible, says Adichunchanagiri Seer

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that the contents in books are more credible than those that appear in social media sites, Adichunchanagiri Seer Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji said that there is a need to do a check and balance deed of social media content to ascertain facts.

He was speaking at the book release function of ‘Grantha Lakshmi’(Kannada version) and ‘ Dynamics of Library and Information Science’ (English version), a commemorative volume in honour of University of Mysore (UoM) former  Librarian Late S.N. Lakshminarayana, organised by S.N. Lakshminarayana Memorial Felicitation Committee at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Vijayanagar here yesterday morning.

Recalling the contribution of S.M. Lakshminarayana for Library and Information Science which was then witnessing changes in the functioning of libraries, Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji underlined the importance of developing reading habit among people.  

Highlighting the role of libraries in imparting knowledge not only to students, but to all sections of the society, he observed that our rich culture will be destroyed if children are kept away from libraries. 

Stressing on the need for introducing libraries to children, he said that this will help them  in understanding the rich traditions of our country at an young age and develop a mindset for contributing something of their own for the country.

Varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, who released the English version of the book (Dynamics of Library and Information Science), said that today Librarians play a key role in knowledge dissemination and updation among the population and added that both Kannada and English versions of the book are useful for students who are interested in studying Library Science. Stressing on the need for maintaining quality and updation in all research and academic  studies or activities, he observed that the books have need-based topics, in keeping with the modern day requirements. 

Veteran writer Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar, former Chief Librarian of UoM Dr. C.P. Ramashesh, former UoM Vice-Chancellor Dr. M. Madaiah, former MLA Vasu, Secretary of Vidyavardhaka Educational Institutions and former City Mayor P. Vishwanath, retired Canara Bank General Manager Dr. S.T. Ramachandra, Bhagya Lakshminarayana, Adichunchanagiri Seer Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, Adichunchanagiri Mysuru Shakha Mutt Seer Sri Someshwaranatha Swamiji and others were present.

Green Library concept at UoM

The UoM has plans to introduce ‘Green Library’ concept in Manasagangothri campus. The book ‘Dynamics of Library and Information Science’ has 31 chapters which will be very useful for research scholars pertaining to Library Science and also provides information on various types of libraries such as Smart Library, Green Library and others.
