‘Software aiding Kannada must be developed’

March 13, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Chief Minister’s e-Governance Advisor Belur Sudarshan has said “Apart from the community, the software conducive for the progress of Kannada should also be developed. Knowledge and Technology should go hand in hand, as it is difficult for the technology to progress without the aid of knowledge. If the development of Kannada happens, it will facilitate the progress of community too.”

Addressing e-Kammata session organised by the State Government, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) and e-Governance at Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysuru, recently Sudarshan said that if technology grows, knowledge also progresses.

“Both are two faces of a same coin. Along with this, Kannada also should progress and Kannada software should be made accessible to all. A meeting of interested Kannada software developers chaired by then Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman T. S. Nagabharana in Bengaluru, had been convened, which had discussed on similar lines,” he said.

There are many volunteering to work for the cause of Kannada. There are also many persons amongst us who developed technology for the development of Kannada. Kannada should grow on digital platforms and the field of publication should also join hands in this regard. If they work ignoring technology, it may crop up new issues. The e-Book technology can also prosper, he added.

Director (Planning) of e-Governance Cell, Kannada Centre, H. L. Prabhakar said “These plans should be taken to community level. In the first phase, we should work on building a mould for development of Kannada and its software by involving those having an authority on language and technology.”

Of late, Kannada is being translated through Google. Hence we have to bring a suitable system, as there is no lack of information in Kannada. If the suitable advises are received, it will be helpful in developing Kannada and related technology, he added.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, Prof. K. Chidananda Gowda said, “A small country like Estonia has become a model for the world in incorporating blockchain technology. Land records, citizenship records, voters records, banking records have all been included in blockchain technology. In the last two elections, the people have not gone to polling booths, as they have voted from the comfort of their home, using blockchain technology.”

India lags behind in incorporating this. There is a provision to provide services like banking, insurance and health by installing blockchain technology. It is safe, valuable and a transparent technology. ChatGPT like technology can be used for addressing administrative and technology related queries, he added.
