Special Swachhata Abhiyan begins tomorrow

December 23, 2017

Mysuru: All efforts are going on by the District Administration to put Mysuru back on the top cleanliness rank in the country.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep has strictly directed Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to maintain cleanliness in the city outskirts and the layouts adjoining the Ring Road. He has called for a special Swachhata Abhiyan drive from tomorrow (Dec.24).

A whopping 4014 cities are vying for the top rank in this year’s Swachhata Abhiyan. To regain the ‘Cleanest City’ tag in this tough competition, the DC held a meeting yesterday with the officials of the MCC, MUDA, Zilla and Taluk Panchayats at Jaladarshini Guest House and asked all of them to help in preserving the city’s cleanliness.

A highly qualified team of survey assessors from the Quality Council of India will arrive in the city on Jan.4, 2018, to conduct the survey. Hence, all efforts should be made to keep not only the city area clean but also the Gram Panchyat, Taluk Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat areas adjoining the city. Hence, all the officials from these departments should join hands, he said.

Trucks and lorries carrying goods to city must be allowed entry at check posts, only if they are covered with tarpal. The owners of vacant corner sites lying in a state of neglect should be served notice to get them cleaned. If they do not respond to the notice, they should be penalised, he directed.

MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha said that already necessary action has been taken in the light of Swachh Survekshan. In all 65 wards, five additional Pourakarmikas have been assigned. Along with this, the Pourakarmikas who clean the underground drainages have also been drafted for cleaning.

On Dec.24, a special Swachhata Abhiyan will be held. The Pourakarmikas participating in this Abhiyan will be served lunch, he said.

MUDA Commissioner Kantharaju said that there are more than 2,000 CA (civic amenities) and corner sites, which are lying vacant and they are filled with weeds and other growth. Notices will be issued to the owners to remove them. He assured that MUDA will join hands with MCC in Swachhata Abhiyan.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P. Shivashankar said that already instructions had been given to Panchayat Development Officers to maintain cleanliness in the areas adjoining the city.

MUDA Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu, MCC Health Officer Dr. D.N. Nagaraju and others were present at the meeting.

MUDA to handover layouts

DC Randeep directed the MUDA to handover 65 layouts under its jurisdiction to the MCC. Before the model code of conduct for the upcoming election comes into force they should be handed over. The officials of both the MUDA and MCC should conduct a joint survey before the handover, he said.

Reacting to this, MUDA Commissioner Kantharaju said that in the first week of January, 2018 all the 65 layouts will be handed over to MCC.
