Sri Krishna Janmashtami at ISKCON, Mysuru

Mysuru: International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is celebrating Sri Krishna Janmashtami at its centre in 18th Cross, Jayanagar in city on Aug. 15.

Celebrations will begin from 4.15 am and continue until 1 am the next day. Sri Krishna Balarama, the presiding Deities of ISKCON Mysuru, will be bedecked in a special decoration for the occasion. Darshana will be open throughout the day. The special attraction during Janmashtami celebration is the elaborate Mahaabhisheka to Sri Krishna Balarama which begins at 10 pm and culminates with Maha Mangalaarati and Sankirtana at 12 midnight, coinciding with the time of Sri Krishna’s birth.

As part of the Janmashtami celebrations, throughout the day, many senior artistes like A.D. Srinivasan, Rajesh Padiyar, Nitin Rajaram Shastry and many others would be performing Sangeethotsava Seva in the main temple hall.

Instrumental recital by Sumukh R. Prasad and group will be held from 6 pm to 7 pm; A special dance-drama ‘Dwaraka Krishna Lilamrutham,’ based on Srimad Bhagavatham, would be performed by various artistes from Chaari Group, Mysuru, from 7 pm to 8 pm in a special auditorium.

ISKCON will be constructing a grand temple and cultural complex at its nine acre land in Jayanagar. The cultural complex built in a Hoysala style architecture includes an international guest house and a sophisticated multimedia theatre for providing a unique perspective of the philosophy of Bhagavatha. The Akshaya Patra mid-day meal programme of ISKCON is currently feeding 25,000 children everyday in the city of Mysuru.
