Stage set for Legislative Council Polls on June 3

11 candidates in fray from South Teachers Constituency, 8 from Southwest Teachers and 10 from Southwest Graduates Constituency

Mysore/Mysuru: With the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers having expired, a total of 11 candidates are in the fray from the South Teachers Constituency, 8 candidates from the Southwest Teachers Constituency and 10 candidates from the Southwest Graduates Constituency, according to a release from the Office of the Returning Officer and Regional Commissioner.

Polling for all three Constituencies will be held on June 3 between 8 am and 4 pm, with results to be announced on June 6. A total of 10,439 voters, including 5,338 male and 5,100 female voters, will exercise their franchise for the Legislative Council Polls from the South Graduates Constituency.

Indelible ink will be applied to the right-hand index finger of voters during the Southwest Graduates Constituency and South Teachers Constituency polls, and the middle finger for the polling in the Southwest Teachers Constituency.

The Returning Officer has urged voters and the general public to report any incidents of violating the Model Code of Conduct to the Assistant Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner. Complaints can be filed with Election Observer Dr. J. Ravishankar at 72042-14565.Meanwhile, with May 20 being the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers, two candidates withdrew from the South Teachers Constituency and one candidate each from the Southwest Teachers Constituency and Southwest Graduates Constituency.

The release also mentioned that the voters’ list for all three Constituencies is published at https://rcmysore.karnataka.gov.in for the benefit of the voters.

Dry day: In a related development, the District Administration has banned the sale of liquor and ordered the closure of liquor shops from 4 pm on June 1 until midnight on June 3 across the entire district to maintain law and order during the Legislative Council Polls.

Additionally, liquor shops will remain closed on the day of counting, from midnight on  June 5 until midnight on June 6, within the city and up to 5 kilometres outside the city limits, according to a press release issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra.
