Athletics is the mother of all events in the world sporting scene. It contributes greatly to the development of character traits such as courage, determination, sense of achievement and as well as helps in developing one’s personality. Our city’s upcoming and talented athlete V. Ambika has done all Mysureans proud with her performances in the National and State level championships. Ambika taking part in the 31st South Zone Junior National Athletic Championships 2019 at Udupi recently, won the gold in the girls U-20 Shot Put event creating a new meet record with a throw of 13.63mts and earned selection to represent South Zone in the Inter-zonal National Junior Athletic Meet. She is our “Star This Week”.
Ambika has represented Karnataka in the junior level and also has won bronze medal in the Shot Put event at the 63rd National School Games (U-19) section conducted in Rohtak. She had also won a gold medal (U-16 category) at the National Inter-district Junior Athletic Meet (NIDJAM). The talented athlete is also the first Karnataka girl to achieve this feat at the National U-16 Inter-district Athletic Championships.
Ambika is the daughter of late Venkatasubbiah (former qualified cricket umpire) and B.G. Shyamala. She is being coached by senior athlete Mohan Kumar at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium. Ambika has represented Karnataka in different age categories and has many won medals.
Encouraged by her mother, college and Mysuru District Athletic Association, this hard working girl from our city intends to improve on her performances at the National level and aims to represent the country at international level in the days to come.
