Bengaluru: The State Government on Friday announced Rs. 5 lakh each for B. Chaithra and M.K. Gautham, who represented Karnataka in the Indian Women’s and Men’s teams which won the recently concluded first ever Kho Kho World Cup-2025 in New Delhi.
Both, Chaithra and Gautham met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha yesterday where they were felicitated in the presence of Mandya District Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy and MLC-cum-Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) President K. Govindaraju.
Though the announcement of cash reward is welcomed, the question arises: Is Rs. 5 lakh enough for the efforts of the kho kho champs who made it to an international-level without facilities being provided by the State Government? Meanwhile, neighbouring Maharashtra Government has announced a reward of Rs. 2.25 crore each and Class One jobs to each of the players who represented Maharashtra in World Cup. This shows Karnataka government’s non-committal attitude towards rural sports.
