State-level Women’s Cricket Tournament: NICE Bengaluru emerge champions

NICE Bengaluru emerged champions of Women’s Cricket Tournament by defeating KIOC Bengaluru by 5 runs in the finals played at SDNR Wadiyar Stadium in Manasagangothri, here yesterday.

KIOC Bengaluru won the toss and opted to bowl. Having sent to bat, NICE scored 149/9 in 25 overs. G.R. Prerana topscored with 37 runs while C. Prathyusha contributed 22 runs with bat for NICE. Rohitha Choudri picked up four wickets giving away 21 runs in four overs while Ananya Hegde finished with the figures of 2 for 37 in 5 overs.

In reply, valiant effort of Uma Kashvi (76) did not yield a good result for KIOC as the team could only score 144 runs in 25 overs falling five runs short of the target. Sakshi K. Doijode (26) was the other contributor for the losing side. For NICE, Priya S. Chavan and Vaidehi Yadav picked up two wickets each.

In the third place play-off, Bowlout Cricket Academy, Mysuru, defeated Herons Bengaluru by eight wickets.

The awards to winner and runner-up teams were presented by Dr. C. Venkatesh, Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore.

Mysuru Warriors Team Co-ordinator N. Arun Kumar, Bowlout Cricket Academy Founder and Head Coach S. Rajat were present. The organisers felicitated Shubha Satheesh of Mysuru for making her debut in Indian women’s team against England recently.

A total of eight teams from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Udupi and Shivamogga took part in the tournament held from June 5 at both SDNR Wadiyar Stadium in Manasagangothri and JSS STU Cricket Grounds in SJCE campus. The tournament was organised by Department of Physical Education, UoM, in association with Bowlout Cricket Academy.

Player of the Final: Priya S. Chavan (NICE Bengaluru)

Player of the Tournament: Shreya Chavan (NICE)

Best Bowler: Ananya Hegde (KIOC Bengaluru)

Best Batter: Uma Kashvi (KIOC Bengaluru)

Best Fielder: C.U. Inchara (NICE Bengaluru)

Best Wicket Keeper: Sakshi K. Doijode (KIOC Bengaluru).
