State U-17 Open Boys & Girls Chess Championship: Jagadish, Prasiddhi Bhat win titles

Jagadish of Bengaluru with eight points from nine rounds and Mysuru girl Prasiddhi Bhat with 7.5 points from nine rounds won the Karnataka State Open U-17 Boys & U-17 Girls titles respectively on the concluding day of the three-day Karnataka State Chess Championship conducted by Mysore Chess Centre under the aegis of the UKCA at Raghavendraswamy Mutt Hall, Krishnamurthypuram, from Aug.3 to 5.

Jagadish (Rating 1847) with 8 points won the title and Shree Krishna Pranama (Dakshina Kannada – rating 1708) with 7.5 points finished runner-up. Both of them will represent Karnataka in the National Championships to be held in Harayana from Sept.3 to 11.

Rakesh of Mandya and Shreyansh A. Kulkarni (Bengaluru) tied with 7 points each and based on their tie-break score, secured the third and fourth places respectively. AGM Navodith Bhat (Bengaluru) finished fifth with 6.5 points.

Mysuru lad M. Shivanth with 6.5 points secured the seventh place. Other Mysuru players, Arnav Muralidhar (6 pts-12th), S. Vishwajith (6 pts-14th), R Raghu Prasad (6 pts-15th), J.Sandeep (6 pts-17th), S.R. Ashuthosh (5.5 pts-19th), N.C. Gambhir (5.5 pts-22nd), C. Ajay (5.5 pts-23rd), N. Venkatesh Babu (5.5 pts-25th), P. Manish Kumar (5.5 pts-28th) and Fiero Jain (5.5 pts-30th) fared well.

Prasiddhi Bhat triumphs

Mysuru girl Prasiddhi Bhat with 7.5 points from nine rounds won the Girls U-17 title. Shriya R. Revankar (Dwd) with 7 points finished runner-up. Both of them will represent Karnataka in the National Championship to be held at Haryana from Sept. 3 to 11. Dhanyatha Corry (Bengaluru), Tanisha Shital Gotadke (Darwad), Swara Lakshmi S. Nair (Bengaluru) and AFM V. Renganayaki (Bengaluru) tied with 6.5 points and secured the places from third to sixth in the final placings.

Mysuru girls Hemadhri Sathish (5.5-13th), M.N. Eshanvi (5.5-16th), Shardhi Shastry (5-19th), K.R. Sara (4.5-20th), Dhatri Umesh (5-21st), Yashika R. Joshi (5-27th), L. Vaishnavi (5-28th) and Vindhya Sridhar (4.5-29th place) fared well in the tourney.

The prizes to the winners were given by Rtn. Sunil Baliga, C.K.Muralidharan and M.J. Krishnamurthy. Nagendra Muralidhar, Vice-President, UKCA & Director,, Mysore Chess Centre, was also present on the occasion.

U-17 Girls: 1. Prasiddhi Bhat (7.5), 2. Shriya S. Revankar (7), 3. Dhanyatha Corry (6.5-51), 4. Tanisha Shital Gotadke (6.5-50.5), 5. Swara Lakshmi S. Nair (6.5-49), 6. AFM V.
