Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy has said that the practice of manual scavenging is prohibited and manual scavengers have been rehabilitated. However, the process of issuing title deeds related to sites allotted to such beneficiaries is pending and the officials concerned must identify places to provide due facilities to them.

He was presiding over a meeting of District-level Awareness and Incharge Committee to discuss about prohibition on engaging manual scavengers and their rehabilitation, at his office in Siddarthanagar recently.

The Deputy Commissioner directed Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to identify two acres of land within a month, to build a Community Hall for Safai Karmacharis belonging to Adi Dravida community at Hebbal Colony.

The Officers were also directed to take steps to issue title deeds to those Safai Karmacharis residing in the Colony at Chilkunda village in Hunsur taluk, for the past 50 years. Besides, the children of manual scavengers, studying from eighth standard to Second PUC should be distributed tabs to facilitate their education, along with bearing their school fee under rehabilitation scheme, to ensure that they continue their education.

The Committee Members demanded that Pourakarmikas falling under the jurisdiction of MCC should be regularly subjected to health check up. The rehabilitated manual scavengers, should be given priority in the recruitment for vacant posts of Pourakarmikas by urban local bodies (ULB).

Joint Director of Social Welfare Department Rangegowda, Project Director of District Urban Development Cell (DUDC) Shubha and others were present.

Meeting over crop relief, Aadhaar seeding

 DC Lakshmikanth Reddy also conducted a meeting of Revenue Department officials at his Office in the city. Reddy, who reviewed the progress related to sanctioning of government lands to various departments, later discussed about various services related to Revenue Department like Crop Relief, Rain Damages, Aadhaar Seeding, Land Beat and Revenue Villages.

The cases related to podi and farmer suicides should be disposed off without any delay, he said.

The DC also said that he will be conducting progress review meeting once in every 15 days and the officials should discharge their duties in compliance with the public and farmers demand. Additional DC Dr. P. Shivaraju, DCF K.N. Basavaraj, Assistant Commissioners, Tahsildars and all district-level officers were present.
