Survey predicts 113 seats for BJP in Assembly polls

September 7, 2017

Bengaluru: A Delhi-based poll survey agency has predicted 113 seats to the BJP in the pre-poll survey conducted by it in the State.

The survey conducted by the Centre for Political and Social Studies (COPSS) has also predicted 86 seats for the Congress and 25 to the JD(S) in the 2018 Assembly polls. The agency had predicted the most accurate survey in the Assembly polls held earlier this year, when it said that the BJP would return to power with a huge majority.

The agency which interviewed a select section voters in all the 224 Assembly segments of the State, predicted 113 seats to the main Opposition BJP, 86 to the ruling Congress and 25 to the JD(S).

The agency’s prediction has come as a boost to the State BJP. Anti-incumbency factor and the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will catapult the BJP to power in Karnataka, the agency has said in its survey report. According to the survey, the BJP is likely to bag 16-18 seats out of 28 Assembly segments in BBMP jurisdiction, while the Congress is likely to get 6 to 8 and the JD(S) 0 to 2.

In Chikmagalur, the BJP will cling on to its popularity by winning 3-4 seats and JD(S) one seat in the 5 Assembly segments of the district. Most Assembly segments in Mumbai-Karnataka North region of Karnataka is likely to witness a keen contest between the Congress and the BJP, while it is almost the same situation in Hyderabad-Karnataka region too. The JD(S) will make little impact in these two regions of North Karnataka.

However, the JD(S) which has a strong presence in old Mysuru region covering Hassan, Ramanagar, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural and Tumkuru district, is likely to give a tough fight to the ruling Congress and the BJP. The JD(S) is likely to secure most of its seats in this region, the survey said.
