Suspected gangrape and murder: Lashkar Police arrest five persons

Mysore/Mysuru: Lashkar Police have arrested five persons on suspicion of committing gangrape and murder of a woman, whose body was found near Benki Nawab Street in Lashkar Mohalla on Monday night at about 11.45. The woman is aged between 35 and 40 years.

The Police, who launched a hunt late night, found four persons drunk and sleeping on the cross road of Benki Nawab Street and took them into custody for questioning, during which the Cops came to know the four persons along with another had raped the woman before killing her.

Lashkar Inspector Suresh Kumar, who had registered a case, shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary for post-mortem and had launched a hunt to nab the other accused involved in the crime. The Cops finally arrested the accused yesterday afternoon behind Old RMC. All the five accused are labourers, daily wagers and loaders, who used to sleep on footpaths in Chamundeshwari Theatre surroundings.

Police sources said that one of the accused is a minor and all the five is suspected to have raped the woman in drunken stupor and strangled her to death. As there is no clarity in the case, the names of the accused cannot be revealed, sources added.

Police said that, CCTV footages show that a group of four persons were like fighting with each other, but the visuals are not clear. The identification of the deceased woman is not known and even the accused were not providing clear information about the incident, the Police added.

Based on the clues from the spot, a case of rape and murder has been registered and a clear picture would be known only after receiving the post-mortem report, Police sources said.
