Suspected honour killing in Nanjangud: Two arrested

June 25, 2017

Mysuru: A case of suspected honour killing has been reported from where a girl was allegedly burnt to death by her father and four others for having an affair with a boy who belonged to a different caste.

The girl’s lover, Krishna hails from Saragur in H.D. Kote Taluk and he has complained to the Police that the girl has been killed three months ago.

The Police have now arrested two persons from Nanjangud in this connection.

In his complaint to the Saragur Police, Krishna has stated that he was in love with 19-year-old Shobha, daughter of Gurusiddegowda and Mahadevamma of Parvathipura Village in Nanjangud Taluk. Though Shobha too liked him and was willing to marry him, her parents opposed their relationship as he (Krishna) belonged to a different caste.

Krishna has stated in his complaint that he and Shobha had made up their mind to elope from their homes. “Three months back, when I met Shobha at Mullur Village in H.D. Kote Taluk, her father Gurusiddegowda came along with four persons and assaulted both of us. I somehow managed to escape but Shobha’s father dragged her and threatened to kill her after taking her home,” he stated.

He has suspected that Shobha would have been killed by her father as she was missing from the day of the assault. Krishna lodged a complaint with Saragur Police on June 24 (yesterday) and said that all his efforts to trace Shobha went in vain.

“I have been trying to contact her since the last three months and many of Shobha’s close relatives said that she was not to be seen in the village. Also her father Gurusiddegowda has been telling his villagers that he had killed and burnt his daughter,” he stated in his complaint.

Acting on the complaint, the Saragur Police have arrested Gurusiddappa’s brother and one more accused and have subjected them to intense interrogation to ascertain the facts in Krishna’s complaint.
