Mysore/Mysuru: Kannada film lyricist Dr. V. Nagendra Prasad gave a call to students to involve themselves in extra-curricular activities too, apart from studies, to show their talent in cultural and sports related activities. He was speaking during the annual day celebrations of Rotary West School, Saraswathipuram, organised at Kalamandira in city recently.
“Nowadays, even cultural and sports related activities are being encouraged along with academics. Both schools and parents are encouraging their children to take part in extra-curricular activities, which is a sign of good development. By excelling in academics, one can occupy top positions, but one can build a niche career on their own through their talent too. There are many such examples including myself,” said Dr. Prasad.
Recalling his tryst with penning poetry, Dr. Prasad said “During my school and college days, I used to busy myself writing poetry, which came to the notice of a teacher who advised me to focus on studies while at school and devote my time to pursue my passion during the break. Another teacher prodded to send the poetry to newspapers to publish them. All these helped me pursue my passion for literature and also eke out a living.”
Students presented various cultural programmes. BEO (South) C.N. Raju, President of Rotary West Dr. B. Chandra, Secretary Dr. S.A. Mohankrishna, School Principal K.S. Poornima and others were present.
