Football is the most popular sport in the world sporting scene and has a large following all over the universe. The game requires excellent skill, fitness from the individual player and as it is a team game needs excellent co-ordination with fellow players to succeed in the game at any level.
Mysuru has been a centre which has been producing talented footballers from time to time who have gone on to play for the State and Country in various events. One such player from Durgamba Football Club, S. Shreyas has done every one proud by representing Karnataka in the Santosh Trophy National-level Football Championships 2018 held at Kolkata recently. Karnataka lost in the semi-finals to Bengal 0-2 in the Championship. Shreyas gained valuable experience by playing in the Championships. He is our ‘Star This Week.’
The 23-year-old Shreyas, who plays as a right-wing-back, represented Karnataka senior men’s team in the Santosh Trophy Championships.
He played against Odisha in the Group ‘A’ league match which Karnataka won 2-0. Karnataka topped Group A and qualified for the semi-finals, before bowing out of the Championships losing to Bengal.
Shreyas plays for Durgamba FC in the MDFA ‘A’ Division league and plays an important role in the team’s fortunes in the Championship this season.
Shreyas, an M.Com graduate from TTL College, Mysuru, has represented Mysore University in the South Zone Inter-University Football Championships in 2015-16 and has played an important role in their team’s win over Andhra in the Championships. He is the son of Shivashankar and Shakuntala, residents of J.P. Nagar in city. Shreyas started playing football from the College level and was inspired by senior player Nikhil Nachappa to take up to the game.
Shreyas started his football league career in 2013 when he represented Jolly XI in 2013 season. In 2015, he represented Ganesha FC.
He was in the best of his form in 2016-17, when he turning out for Gandhingar FC was adjudged as the ‘Best defender’ of the ‘A’ division league, by the MDFA for the 2016-17 season.
Shreyas, encouraged by his parents and MDFA authorities including Hon. Secretary L. Manjunath, intends to work hard, represent the State senior team on a regular basis and to don India colours in the days to come.
