Talented Tennis Player: Suraj R. Prabodh

Tennis is a global sport and Mysuru has been producing talented tennis players from time to time who have gone on to represent the country in different levels. One such player from Mysuru, who has made his mark in the National and International level is Suraj R. Prabodh. Ranked No.1 in the State in the men’s section and No.12 in the country, this lad has been making steady progress and improving his ATP ranking by playing well in the ITF Futures and circuit tournaments. His excellent performance has yielded him results and the Bengaluru Open, ATP Challenger $1,00,000 Tournament organisers have given him a wildcard to take part in the main draw in the men’s singles event, which will give him the needed exposure in the highest level. He is our ‘Star This Week.’

The 22-year-old is a product of Mysore Tennis Club, Mysuru and is presently training at the Harvest Tennis Academy, Jassowal. He is being trained by Serbian coach Milos Pavlovic. Early last month, he finished runner-up in the men’s Singles event in the Fenesta National Tennis Championship in Delhi.

Suraj will take on fourth seeded Elias Ymer in the first round of the Bengaluru Open ATP Challenger event which begins today and it will be a great experience to him to take on a player who is ranked 1000 places above him in the ranking. Recently, Suraj, taking part in the Malaysia F3 ITF $15,000 ITF Men’s Tennis Tournament on Nov.3, entered the quarter-finals in the Men’s Singles, going down to fourth seeded Netherlands player Scott Griekspoor 1-6, 1-6.

Suraj, encouraged by his parents Prabodh and Renuka, took up to the game at an early age and has been making steady progress in this sport and has of late improved on his fitness levels and has been playing consistently in the higher level.

Suraj has a neat game and has a wide range of shots both on his forehand and backhand and is a more confident player now.

Suraj presently with an ATP ranking of 1147 in Singles, aims to work hard and improve on his rankings and perform well in the ITF Men’s Circuit in the days to come.
