Teen city cyclist earns Super Randonneur title

May 2, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: Eighteen-year-old Nirmal Choyal has become one of the youngest cyclists from Mysuru to achieve the Super Randonneur title under Audax.

The Super Randonneur title, awarded by the Audax Club Parisien (ACP), is given to cyclists who complete a series of long-distance Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRMs), 200 km, 300 km, 400 km and 600 km, within a calendar year.

The feat demands high levels of endurance, consistency and self-sufficiency in non-competitive cycling. Nirmal completed the full series, marking a rare achievement at his age and placing him among a select group of endurance cyclists from the State.

He credits his inspiration to cousin Mahesh Choudhary, an endurance cyclist who has completed events such as Paris-Brest-Paris and London-Edinburgh-London. He is also motivated by 58-year-old cyclist Likmaram, who cycled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, covering 3,700 km in 22 days.

Nirmal is currently training under Naveen Solanki, the first cyclist from Karnataka to complete the Race Across India challenge, covering 3,758 km from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 10 days. He is also guided by G.S. Sunil Kumar, Head of Audax, Mysuru and a Paris-Brest-Paris finisher.

Apart from cycling, Nirmal is active in football, running & swimming, and has taken part in 10 km & 21 km runs. He is pursuing a degree in Law. His parents, Dharmendar Choudhary, a businessman & his mother, Anitha Choudhary, a homemaker, have been supporting his sporting pursuits.
