Police seek expert help to scan CCTV footage

The V.V. Puram Police have sought the help of technicians to make the blurred CCTV footage clear to help them trace and arrest two women, who after making a 72-year-old woman consume pesticides forcibly, made away with gold ornaments weighing about 140 grams worth Rs. 4.2 lakh in city yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who lost her jewels and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Gokulam here, is identified as Jayamma, resident of V.V. Puram.

V.V. Puram Inspector C.V. Ravi, speaking to SOM today, said that he visited the hospital in the morning where the woman is admitted. But as the concerned doctor was not present, he could not speak to the lady and will be visiting the hospital again to speak to the victim who is recovering now, he added.

He said that the Police want to ascertain whether the two women who had come to see the house had come on their own or whether they were referred by some known persons.

Stating that the CCTV footage obtained from a nearby residence showed a blurred footage of two women, he said that they had sought the help of technicians to make the footage clear so that it would be helpful in tracing and arresting the culprits.

It may be recalled, at about 12.30 pm yesterday, two women approached Jayamma saying that they had seen the house which was put up by Jayamma’s family for rent on Friday and wished to see the house again.

The unsuspecting Jayamma, who thought that her son Vasu might have shown the house, picked up the keys of the vacant house behind the house she is living at present and opened  the doors.

The two women, who looked at the house for sometime, suddenly caught hold of Jayamma, forcibly made her drink pesticides, rendering Jayamma unconscious and decamped with six gold bangles and a gold chain Jayamma was wearing and fled.

Jayamma, who regained conscious, managed to come out and screamed for help.

Meanwhile, Vasu who heard about the incident rushed to the house and informed V.V. Puram Police. Inspector C.V. Ravi and staff, who rushed to the spot, first admitted Jayamma to a private hospital in Gokulam and conducted mahazar.

N.R. Sub-Division ACP Umesh G. Shet, Fingerprint unit ACP Rajashekar, SI Appajigowda and the dog squad also visited the place.

It may be mentioned that about six months ago, miscreants had sprayed chemicals on a person in a house at V.V. Puram, opposite Loyal World and had looted gold and cash which is yet to be traced.

The Police have urged the residents not to open the door to strangers and to contact the nearest Police Station if any person is found moving around in the locality in a suspicious manner.
