Mysuru/Mysore: The three-day State-level Para Games-2020, organised by Karnataka Sports Association for the Physically Handicapped, Bengaluru, began at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Nazarbad in the city this morning.
On the first-day today, the event was held for specially-abled children aged between 6 and 12 years of the district under four categories —Cerebral Palsy (CP), Deaf and Dumb, Mentally Challenged (MC) and Intellectually Challenged (IC).About 600 children took part in events such as Basketing the Ball,Throw Ball, Running Race etc.,
Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports C.T. Ravi is scheduled to formally inaugurate the event at 4 pm this evening.
Tomorrow and the day after (Mar.7&8), the State-level events will take place for specially abled persons aged over 18 years. The competition will be held under four categories—Wheelchair: Physically Challenged, Vision impaired and Dwarf persons.
The events include Wheel-chair Basketball, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, Javelin Throw etc. Karnataka Sports Association for the Physically Handicapped President and Arjuna Awardee M. Mahadev speaking to Star of Mysore this morning said that this is a State-level meet and top performers will qualify to take part in the 19th National Para Athletics Championships to be held in Mysuru from Mar. 26 to 28, 2020.
Top performers at this National Championships will take part in the Paralympics to take place at Tokyo in Japan later this year.
Mysuru Zilla Panchayat has sanctioned Rs.10 lakh for the event, he said and added that all the participants have been provided free Boarding and Lodging.
