Three killed in a freak accident at Chamarajanagar nagar

April 14, 2018

Chamarajanagar: A trip to Tamil Nadu proved deadly for a family from a village in Indi taluk of Vijayapura district as three persons, including two children, were killed when a lorry toppled on their parked car in the outskirts of Chamarajanagar town this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Siddarama (40), who was at the wheels, Sanketh Kumar (4) and Lakshmikanth (13), all hailing from Kullaragi village in Indi taluk of Vijayapura district.

A group of 15 villagers from Kullaragi had gone on a trip to Tamil Nadu in two cars a couple of days ago. They were returning to their native village, via Chamarajanagar and Mysuru, when one of the two cars with eight occupants, stopped at Somwarpet adjoining the town on Chamarajanagar-Sathyamangala Road (NH 209) at about 11 am to have tender coconut being sold on the roadside.

Even as one of the occupant got down to answer nature’s call and the other was engaged in buying tender coconuts, a speeding maize loaded lorry proceeding towards Sathyamangala went out of control of its driver and toppled on the car. Due to the impact, Siddarama and two children Sanketh Kumar and Lakshmikanth died on the spot, while three others who were in the car escaped with minor injuries.

The injured were treated at Chamarajanagar District Hospital.

The other car was said to be a little distance behind, when the tragic accident took place. The lorry driver and cleaner too are said to have escaped with minor injuries in the mishap.

Due to the accident, traffic on the ever busy Highway was disrupted for sometime. The Police had a tough time in shifting the fallen lorry and maize sacks and the badly mangled card.
