TN CM Vijay to visit Bengaluru on Aug. 3 for Cauvery talks

July 25, 2026

Bengaluru: Even as the main Cauvery Riparian States —Karnataka and Tamil Nadu — are engaged in a long term wrangle over sharing Cauvery river water, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will be visiting Bengaluru on  Aug. 3 to hold direct talks with his Karnataka counterpart D.K. Shivakumar in an effort to put an end to the decades long imbroglio.

In a letter written to CM Shivakumar, TN CM Vijay had sought a bilateral meeting between the two on resolving the long standing Cauvery dispute between the two States. In response, Shivakumar has invited Vijay to come to Bengaluru on Aug. 3 for the meeting.

During the meeting, the two Chief Ministers are expected to discuss Cauvery water sharing formula, especially during times of distress, proposed construction of balancing reservoir by Karnataka at Mekedatu along Karnataka-TN border to meet drinking water needs and other issues related to Cauvery disputes, which are being battled in Courts.
