Tourist entry banned in Hogenakkal

August 11, 2019

Hanur: With lakhs of cusecs of water being released from both KRS and Kabini reservoirs, the famous Hogenakkal Falls located on Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border is in full spate.

Though the visitors have been coming in large numbers, the Chamarajanagar district administration has banned the entry of visitors as a precautionary measure.

With increasing rainfall in both Wayanad in Kerala and Madikeri and as well as in Cauvery catchment area, the outflow from the two reservoirs has increased over the past couple of days. As a result, the Hogenakkal falls is submerged in the river water. The water has been overflowing above danger level over the hanging bridge and the officials have predicted the danger of being washed away in the strong current.

The District Administration has taken all precautionary measures to prevent loss life at the villages located in the catchment areas of the river. A check-post has been setup at the Kokkarehalla village and Police have been deployed at the check-post to prevent visitors travelling towards Hogenakkal falls.

The District Administration has also instructed villagers of Marikotai, Aatoor, Jammakapatti, Gopinatham and Aalambadi not to foray into the river and even go near the bank.
