TP to distribute unutilised groceries in Hostels to needy

June 10, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: In a novel gesture, the Standing Committee on Social Justice of Mysuru Taluk Panchayat (TP) has resolved to distribute the groceries that have remained unutilised in Hostels among the poor and needy.

At a meeting of the Committee held at the TP Office here on Saturday, TP member K.Hanumanthu said that a considerable quantity of groceries has remained unutilised in Hostels run by the Social Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare and SC/ST Welfare Departments, which were shut following the COVID-19 induced lockdown in March. Such unutilised groceries can be distributed among the poor and needy, he noted.

Expressing concern over the plight of farmers who are distraught by lack of markets and unremunerative prices, he urged the officials to apprise the Government of agrarian problems along with supporting data.

Pointing out that many Schools have distributed rice to the parents of children in lieu of mid-day meals post-lockdown, he said that parents have become so scared of the deadly Coronavirus that they are reluctant to send their wards to schools unless the epidemic ends in total.

He urged the authorities to take all precautionary and safety measures before re-opening of schools.

TP Executive Officer Krishnakumar said that people have to cope with more problems in the future due to the pandemic, which has crippled the economy of the country.

Committee Chairman K.M.Shankar, members Revanna, Muddaramegowda, Tulasi, Manjunath and others were present.
