Mysuru: Director of National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, Dr. Pratima Murthy lamented over traffic density in the city that reminds of Bengaluru.

She was speaking at the graduation day ceremony organised by JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, at Sri Rajendra Centenary auditorium in JSS Hospital premises in city on Thursday.

“It is a matter of joy to visit Mysuru and it is precisely why I readily accepted the invitation from JSS Institute which has been rendering services under its various arms. The environs here offer an air of peace. But when I saw the vehicle density in front of JSS Hospital, it reminded me of Bengaluru,” rued Pratima Murthy.

In her call to the outgoing graduates, Pratima Murthy said “You have chosen an excellent career as you will be opportune to witness the bonding of mother and the child. The child can sense its mother’s words after treatment. I also want to thank your parents for fostering your chosen field.”

The technology has come in handy to plug many ailments and the speech and hearing defects can also be minimised with this. Even the general public should be made aware of this as they will be able to lead a life like others, if they make use of these benefits. The doctors in the realm should also come to their rescue and kindle a ray of hope in their life, she added.  Unlike rural areas, the access to various facilities like hearing aid, sound instruments and required counselling are more in urban areas. The gap should be bridged as rural people are bereft of such  facilities, suggested Pratima Murthy.

In all, certificates were distributed to 39 graduates and 38 post-graduates and 12 students were conferred Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra award for their special achievements.

JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr.C.G. Betsurmath and Medical Education Director R. Mahesh were present at the ceremony.
