Traffic woes: An appeal to Nanjangud local administration

March 30, 2024

Sir,

The Rashtrapathi Road, one of the two main thoroughfares at the temple town of Nanjangud,  is abuzz with vehicular traffic throughout the day, especially in the evenings; so much so that road-crossing literally turns a herculean task not only for the aged, but for youngsters too.

Cars and two-wheelers whiz past in series. Besides, two- wheelers are parked in front of shops all along, further shrinking the road width restricting the pedestrian movement.

This apart, push-cart eateries too dot the footpaths, especially in the evenings in front of Sadavidyasha factory (13th Cross) and opposite Mahalakshmi Sweets near 11th Cross.

People, unmindful of a basic civic sense, gather in groups around the eateries that add on to the misery. No doubt, Police patrol jeep visits once in a while alerting people (through mikes) to ensure decongestion but of no use.

Will the Nanjangud City Municipal Council (CMC) and Police Department look into this anomaly and take action to divert light motor vehicles (cars, jeeps) to the adjacent MGS Road, besides banning push-cart eateries?
