Kaverappa and Artist  Alip Majumdar will be present.

About the expo

The expo showcases the true story of a young artist from West Bengal, Alip Majumdar, how he himself overcame depression through the self therapy of paintings and drawings.

The 22-year-old artist from Siliguri, West Bengal, is presently residing in Mysuru, pursuing his Engineering in Electronics and Communication at NIE. He is a self-taught artist with little training during his childhood.

His initial two years of Engineering in Mysuru was eclipsed by clouds of anxiety and depression due to fear and loneliness. It almost reached to a breaking point. Suddenly, at this juncture, the artist in him surfaced and he started experimenting with mixed media on paper to ease himself out. It worked like a positive drug therapy and he became a normal person.

His debut in the field of art is thus ‘The Trajectory of Depression,’ a creative journey. Out of the many art works created by him, about 20-odd art works done during this period and later, are being exhibited at Bharani Art Gallery, Mysuru.

The artist has used water colours, markers, sketch pens, gel pens, pencils (Mixed Media) on paper to create his way of liberty. These unconventional art works seems to be playing with highly conceptual ideas, from moderate dark colours to extremely colourful areas and then traversing towards intense blacks. Sometimes they seems to be funny and cartoonish, depending upon his mood and the then state of his mind. This series of art works “Trajectory of Depression” represents the intensity of Alip’s mental state during that period of turmoil. Study of these art works may be of immense help to psychologists and other persons involved in mental health, to find new ways and means to ease mental problems of their patients.

Silver Jubilee Year for Bharani

Bharani Art Gallery [1994 -2019] is the first private Art Gallery of Mysuru and the only Gallery in Karnataka, with hot water and toilet attached guest room, being offered to the artists, free of rent. Twenty-five years on service basis, without any assistance by Government or Government-controlled Academies/ Institutions is itself a great achievement. Instead of celebrating by holding a huge programme, the Gallery has taken a decision to conduct special art exhibitions dealing with special subjects and other art-related lectures and discussions.
