Narrow escape for couple

Madikeri: A couple travelling in their Benz car had a narrow escape after a wild elephant attacked their car and gored the bonnet with its tusk leaving a hole in the car bonnet on Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday at about 12 noon, Korana Tipu and his wife, residents of Mathikadu, were proceeding in their Benz car towards their house from Suntikoppa via Chettalli, when the wild elephant appeared suddenly in the middle of the road near Kuttoti line houses.

When the wild elephant was coming forward to attack the car, the couple, sensing danger, got down from the car and fled to a safe place, thus saving themselves from the attack. But the wild elephant gored the bonnet of the car leaving a hole in the bonnet before moving away.

It is learnt that an operation to chase wild elephants into the forest from estates in Mathikadu limits was going on from the morning and the wild tusker, which came out from an estate, attacked the car damaging it.
