Mysuru: A two-day seminar on ‘Thoughts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in present Context’ with a theme ‘Ambedkar is for all,’ organised jointly by Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Bengaluru and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre, University of Mysore (UoM), Mysuru, commenced yesterday at the Centre’s premises in Manasagangothri. About 100 delegates from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Mandya and other places are participating in the seminar that will conclude this evening.
Inaugurating the programme, Mysore University In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Basavaraju opined that Dr. Ambedkar was as vast as an ocean in knowledge, thoughts and ideals and hence cannot be assessed in one go. However, he regretted that few people were distorting facts in the Constitution thus misleading the people. He advised people to exercise their franchise judiciously to select a good leader. He contended that criminals entering politics has a long term deteriorating effect.
Speaking on the occasion, Academy Chairman Dr. Aravind Malagatti, referring to the Dharma Sansad organised recently at Udupi, hailed the suggestion of Pejawar Seer in having a common cemetery with no barrier on religion. However, he wondered whether the ambition can become a reality.
