Two killed as truck rams into two bikes

Two others injured; public catch fleeing truck driver, beat him black and blue

Nanjangud: A driver of a truck, who lost control of the vehicle, rammed the truck into two bikes, killing two riders on the spot and injuring two others seriously. The accident took place at Kalale Gate in the taluk yesterday.

While Shivaraju (50) and T. Mahesh (33), residents of Kalale village were killed on the spot, one Mahadevu of the same village and his mother Chikkadevamma sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at the Taluk Hospital.

The truck carrying goods from Kerala side was proceeding on the road with another vehicle proceeding in front of it. As the vehicle moving ahead of the truck slowed down suddenly, the truck driver to prevent hitting the vehicle moving in front, steered the truck to the right hitting the two bikes in the process.

Shivaraju and T. Mahesh, who were on one bike fell down and the rear wheels of the truck ran over their heads killing them instantly. Mahadevu and his mother, who were on another bike have sustained serious injuries but are out of danger.

It is learnt that Shivaraju and Mahesh were crossing the National Highway to go to Kalale village from Nanjangud when the accident took place while Mahadevu was taking his mother towards Nanjangud on some work.

Meanwhile, the truck driver, who tried to flee from the spot after the accident, was caught by the public, who beat him black and blue. Nanjangud Traffic Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, shifted the bodies to the Taluk Hospital mortuary, seized the truck besides registering a case.

Post-mortem was conducted at the Taluk Hospital and the bodies of Shivaraju and                                                             Mahesh were handed over to their family members.
