Bherya: Two persons were killed on the spot, while two others suffered serious injuries when a KSRTC bus rammed into their bikes on Hassan-Mysuru Highway near Chikkavaddara Gudi village yesterday.

Those who died on the spot have been identified as Madhu (40), a resident of Gandhanahalli village in K.R. Nagar taluk and Padmamma (60), wife of Revanna and a resident of Harohalli village in Pandavapura taluk, Mandya district. The seriously injured persons, who have been admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, are 32-year-old Manjula, a Gram Panchayat Member and wife of deceased Madhu and 26-year-old Naveen, son of deceased Padmamma.

It is reported that Madhu and Manjula couple were proceeding from Bherya to Gandhanahalli village on their bike when a KSRTC bus (KA-13 F-2186), belonging to Hassan Depot and moving from Hassan side towards Mysuru, rammed into the bike from behind, killing Madhu on the spot and then collided head-on with another bike on which Naveen and his mother Padmamma were travelling resulting in Padmamma’s death.

Padmamma and Naveen were proceeding to Harohalli village to give wedding invitations of Naveen to their relatives.

As soon as the accident occurred, the KSRTC bus driver and the conductor fled from the spot leaving the bus behind.

As soon as the news of the accident spread, villagers of Gandhanahalli staged a protest on the Hassan-Mysuru Highway for some time and expressed their anger. A case has been registered at Saligrama Police Station in this regard.
