Two ‘A’ Mysuru rowdy-sheeters banished; sent to Kalaburagi, Hindalga jails

One rowdy-sheeter is a sitting member of Gram Panchayat whose second wife is a GP President

Mysuru: Two persons from Mysuru district who have been indulging in anti-social activities and rowdyism have been arrested and banished from Nanjangud and Bylakuppe. The arrests were made based on the direction from Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep and one among the arrested is a Gram Panchayat member.

They have been identified as K.K. Ramaswamy alias Ramu, a sitting member of Koppa Gram Panchayat (near Periyapatna) and Rajesh from Nanjangud. Ramu is in ‘A’ rowdy-sheet of the Police and has two wives. His second wife Savithramma is Koppa Gram Panchayat President and he has been indulging in criminal activities including attempt to murder, attempt to rape, assault, rioting, and obstructing Government servants from discharging their duties. He was booked in 34 cases. Like Ramu, Rajesh too is in ‘A’ rowdy-sheet list and was involved in 17 cases including dacoity and extortion.

They have been banished from their respective places and have been jailed as a precaution under provisions of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug-Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum-Grabbers and Video or Audio Pirates Act, 1985. The District Police had sought the Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep’s help to keep Ramaswamy and Rajesh away from public life. Randeep is also the Executive Magistrate.

The DC, after reviewing their cases, passed an order to jail them outside Mysuru. While Ramu has been sent to Kalaburagi jail, Rajesh has been sent to Hindalga Jail in Belagavi.

Mysuru Superintendent of Police Ravi D. Channannavar said that the Police found that both of them had not changed their conduct despite being under the ‘A’ rowdy list.

Fifty-three-year-old Ramaswa-my took advantage of his acquittal in several cases and continued his anti-social and criminal activities. In the latest review of rowdy activities, it was found that he was actively involved in various anti-social activities since 1987 and continued them despite being warned and booked several times.

Thirty-six-year-old Rajesh too was involved in criminal activities since 1997. He was booked for robbery, rioting, and threatening public. He was listed as a rowdy in 2010 and the Nanjangud town Police had booked him in 14 cases, Nanjangud rural Cops in three cases and Hullahalli Cops in one criminal case.

Both Rajesh and Ramaswamy are facing charges of peddling spurious liquor and ganja and are involved in several gambling cases. They are also accused of trying to grab land in slums after threatening dwellers, the SP said.

There are more than 1,000 people in the district who are listed as rowdies for their involvement in various criminal activities. “We are keeping an eye on their activities and are regularly reviewing it. If anyone continues to be involved in anti-social activities in the district, they will be expelled from the district and if necessary, sent to jail,” he added.
