Mysore/Mysuru: In separate incidents, an ex-Corporator and an elderly woman have lost their gold chains to chain-snatchers in city. In both the incidents, the chain-snatchers have targeted elderly women.

In the first incident, scooter-borne miscreants have snatched gold chains of a former woman Corporator in city yesterday night.

The former Corporator, who lost her gold chains, is 70-year-old Nirmala Devi, wife of senior journalist Gouri Satya and a resident of Dewan’s Road in city.

Yesterday at about 7.15 pm, Nirmala Devi, who had gone to a medical store, was returning home and when she was walking near a supermarket on Sonar Street, two persons, who came on a scooter from behind, snatched the gold mangalya chain and another gold chain, both weighing 70 grams and sped away. As the miscreants tugged at the gold chains, Nirmala Devi has suffered minor scratches on her neck.

Lakshmipuram Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar and have registered a case. The Police have collected footages of CCTV cameras installed on the road and have launched a hunt to nab the miscreants.

In the second incident, 70-year-old Meenakshamma, who was walking on the Highway Hotel cross road in V.V. Puram along with her daughter-in-law and grandchildren, lost her 70 grams gold chain to bike-borne miscreants at about 7.45 pm yesterday.

While the rider was wearing a helmet, pillion rider was helmetless. The miscreants, who came from behind, went a little further, then took a turn, came from the opposite direction and snatched the gold chain, Police said.

V.V. Puram Police, who rushed to the spot, registered a case and have launched a hunt to nab the chain-snatchers.

In both the incidents, chain- snatchers have used two-wheelers. The second incident took place within 30 minutes of the first incident and it is suspected that the same miscreants may have committed both the incidents.
