Undertrial escapes from Mandya prison

Mandya: An undertrial prisoner who was lodged in Mandya District Prison here, has reportedly escaped. Gurumurthy, 35, of K.M. Doddi is the one who escaped on Thursday.

Gurumurthy, who was arrested by Arakere Police in connection with a theft case, was lodged in the District Prison on Sept.18.

Gurumurthy was sent along with follow prisoners to clean the Jail premises on Thursday afternoon. But Gurumurthy was found missing during a check by Jail staff on Thursday evening, following which an extensive search was carried out to trace him.

The Jail authorities later lodged a complaint with SP G. Radhika.

Gurumurthy is said to have taken advantage of the heavy rains that lashed on Thursday afternoon to escape from the Prison by climbing the jail wall with the help of a wooden pole that was meant for installation of CC Camera, it is learnt.
