July 21, 2017

Mandya: A 33-year-old undertrial prisoner committed suicide by hanging self at Mandya Jail late on Thursday night.

The deceased prisoner has been identified as Raghavendra, who had landed in jail three-and-a-half months ago in connection with chain-snatching.

Raghavendra, who went to the prison toilet late last night when everyone else was asleep, hanged himself from the window grills of the toilet using his bedsheet, it is learnt.

The undertrial was said to be deeply depressed as none of his family members visited him in the jail and also as no one came forward to get a bail for him.

SP G. Radhika visited the Jail. The Mandya West Police have registered a case in this regard.
