UoM Distance Education: UGC rejects plea for extension of deadline

November 4, 2018

Mysuru:  The University Grants Commission (UGC) has rejected University of Mysore’s (UoM) proposal seeking extension of deadline for admissions to various courses of distance education programme.

The UoM had obtained permission from UGC to offer 11 courses through distance education programme this year. UGC had set Oct. 20 as the last date with penalty for admissions to distance education courses.

Speaking to media persons, UoM Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna said that the Varsity had written a letter to UGC seeking extension of deadline due to poor response. Only 33 candidates had applied for distance education courses.

However, the UGC rejected this request citing that it could not extend the deadline as uniform system of admission process applies to all Varsities across the country. The UGC, however, has given its consent to invite admissions for next academic year which will start from January 2019 for various distance education courses.
