Vidhatri Urs chooses hometown to turn Pro

June 12, 2024

City’s golfer Vidhatri Urs, who has been one of the leading amateurs on Indian Golf Union (IGU) circuit, has chosen her hometown (Mysuru) to take a plunge into professional circuit through the 7th leg Women’s Professional Golf Tournament-2024 starting tomorrow at JWGC Golf Course.

The Tournament, carrying a prize money of Rs. 12 lakh, will be held till June 15. Vidhatri Urs is expected to tee-off at 9.05 am tomorrow along with Geetika Ahuja and Anaggha Venkatesh.

The 18-year-old, who has won almost everything there is to win on the amateur circuit in India, including the IGU’s All India Amateurs, has joined the growing band of young pros willing to start the gruelling pro journey in the sport. Vidhatri has already tasted success on the WGAI pro circuit, having won in 2023 in Bengaluru and been close on other occasions.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Vidhatri Urs said, she felt good to be turning professional in her hometown and at place where she had been playing since her childhood. “I am feeling a little pressure as this is the first professional tournament I am playing in my hometown. I am confident of doing well,” she said.

Vidhatri is following in the footsteps of her cousin Pranavi Urs, who turned professional a couple of years back and now plays on the Ladies European Tour. While a lot of attention is being focused on the hugely talented Vidhatri, the field will also see the experienced Sneha Singh, Amandeep Drall and Gaurika Bishnoi.
