Villagers upset with unnecessary toilets in school

July 3, 2018

Mysuru:  At a time when the governments at the Centre and the State are going all out to make the nation open defecation-free by building toilets, comes the news that toilets are being unnecessarily built in the school premises, in spite of the school being shifted.

In a complaint to the Zilla Panchayat Executive Officer P. Shivashankar, the residents of Hadinaru Village in Nanjangud Taluk have said that two toilets are being built in the school premises, which is totally unnecessary, thus wasting public money.

Since the Government School building near the water tank in Hadinaur village is in a dilapidated condition, it has been shifted to the new building outside the village. Right now, one room is being used as Village Accountant’s office and another for running the PUC classes started from this year. In spite of this, two toilets are being built at a cost of Rs.90,000. Hence action should be taken against those who are responsible for this, urged the villagers.

The toilets should be built if there is a necessity. However, there are only ten students in PUC and besides the toilets already built are in good condition. Also, there is no demand from the school authorities. Even then the money is being wasted taking up the work. In spite of the opposition from the villagers the work is going on, they alleged.

The fact is that if the school needs anything the old students association is ready to help. The IT companies through their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds are also coming to the aid of the school. Therefore, what is the need for the administration to spend the Gram Panchayat funds? The same money can be used to build public toilets in the village or it could be used for some other better purpose, urged villagers Manu, Nataraju, Mahadevappa, Mahesh, Nagaraj and Sadashiv.
